Dentists often suggest ceramic as the material for a front tooth crown due to its ability to seamlessly blend with your natural tooth coloring. This type can occasionally be brittle, but most people experience good results from ceramic crowns.

Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown is fused to metal, creating a strong bond and seal. Like ceramic, porcelain can be made to match the adjacent teeth. Thicker than veneers, porcelain is very durable when worn and can protect the affected tooth from additional damage.

Gold Tooth Crowns

Gold crowns are not as discreet as other varieties, but they do provide excellent strength and a tight seal. Created using metal alloys, a gold crown tooth is fracture-resistant and typically does not irritate surrounding teeth.

What Happens During a Dental Crown Procedure at Our Practice?

Most people require two dental appointments when receiving a dental crown. If root canal therapy or another procedure is required, you may need to schedule additional appointments.

When you visit our office for an initial consultation, one of our dentists will examine your tooth to determine if a crown can repair the damage. If so, the dentist will file down areas of the tooth and create impressions of the tooth’s size and structure. These impressions are sent to a laboratory where the new crown will be created. You’ll use a temporary crown until our office receives the completed crown, which will be fitted at a second visit.

What Does a Dental Crown Cost?

How Do I Take Care of New Dental Crowns?

Typically, crowns for teeth last for approximately seven years; however, with excellent oral hygiene, your crowns may last much longer. Be sure to brush and floss your teeth twice daily. Professional cleanings and exams from our office will also keep your crowns in great condition.
