Tooth Crowns in Abington

When a cavity or injury has severely damaged your tooth, it’s important to know that all is not lost. Visit our office as soon as possible to learn about our high-quality dental crowns.

Why Is a Tooth Crown Necessary?

A tooth crown in Abington protects a decayed or cracked tooth from sustaining additional damage. These appliances are sometimes called dental caps because they cover the tooth completely. Most of the time, a tooth cap is suggested if a filling cannot save the affected tooth. Crowns are often provided after dental implant surgery or root canal therapy, but dentists also use them to correct irregularly shaped teeth or discolorations.

Where Can I Find a Dentist Who Provides Crowns?

Selecting the right dentist can sometimes be a confusing process. Fortunately, tooth crowns are considered a routine service and can be found at our general dentist office. Contact us today if you believe that a dental crown is necessary.

What Are the Different Styles of Tooth Crowns?

Our tooth crowns are available in multiple varieties to meet your needs. Before your final crown is finished, your dentist will provide you with a temporary crown made with stainless steel or plastic.

Ceramic Crowns

A ceramic crown is filled with porcelain and is typically cosmetically pleasing. Dentists often suggest ceramic as the material for a front tooth crown due to its ability to seamlessly blend with your natural tooth coloring. This type can occasionally be brittle, but most people experience good results from ceramic crowns.

Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown is fused to metal, creating a strong bond and seal. Like ceramic, porcelain can be made to match the adjacent teeth. Thicker than veneers, porcelain is very durable when worn and can protect the affected tooth from additional damage.

Gold Tooth Crowns

Gold crowns are not as discreet as other varieties, but they do provide excellent strength and a tight seal. Created using metal alloys, a gold crown tooth is fracture-resistant and typically does not irritate surrounding teeth.

What Happens During a Dental Crown Procedure at Our Practice?

Most people require two dental appointments when receiving a dental crown. If root canal therapy or another procedure is required, you may need to schedule additional appointments.

When you visit our office for an initial consultation, one of our dentists will examine your tooth to determine if a crown can repair the damage. If so, the dentist will file down areas of the tooth and create impressions of the tooth’s size and structure. These impressions are sent to a laboratory where the new crown will be created. You’ll use a temporary crown until our office receives the completed crown, which will be fitted at a second visit.

What Does a Dental Crown Cost?

How much your tooth crown will cost depends on what style of crown is selected. In most cases, insurance plans cover part of the cost. Please call our office for more details about pricing.

How Do I Take Care of New Dental Crowns?

Typically, crowns for teeth last for approximately seven years; however, with excellent oral hygiene, your crowns may last much longer. Be sure to brush and floss your teeth twice daily. Professional cleanings and exams from our office will also keep your crowns in great condition.
